Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?
The class barbecue was very enjoyable. It was a great opportunity to bond with classmates and practice Japanese in a non-strictly academic environment.
What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?
The most productive for me were one on one conversation practice with senseis both in and outside of class. Another very productive aspect was when we were given the opportunity to teach other students. The least productive was when pair work resulted in a pairing with an uninterested or apathetic partner. In these pairings conversations were not given the effort needed to expand and often stuck to repeating what was in the textbook without any further thought.
What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?
Excursions were all very interesting and allowed a guided opportunity to experience Japanese in ways we might not have otherwise thought to have (Bousaikan, Bunraku).
Anything you especially liked in the living arrangements? Any problems you experienced?
The location was very nice. Quiet enough to peacefully live and study but close enough to livelier areas that I didn’t feel isolated.
