Having a lot of Japanese run through your head is great.

Owen from Fall 2019

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

I liked the BBQ. I liked the making curry activity. Mostly because I got to speak a lot of Japanese at those times.

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

Having a lot of Japanese run through your head is great. Class forces that. The problem with school in general is that 15 people are learning from 1 person, the teacher. At best, learning is a 1 on 1 process. But this is rare. Basically cultivating conversational skills through 1 on 1 conversation is quite interesting to me.

What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?

Some of the insights about Japanese culture were valuable. One liner's about Japanese psychology (generalized obviously) were helpful. A little feedback about the culture course was that it took up a lot of time. Maybe that can't be helped, but it was tough at times to lose a weekend day and keep up with classes and also enjoy oneself.

Any comments or tips for prospective/new KCP students?

Be prepared to work hard. This isn't a vacation, though it is fun. One quarter will only give you a taste of what it means to learn Japanese. What's great about KCP is that it is about the language. There aren't many frills and the one's that do exist, like the culture class, seem fairly dense with enriching experiences.

Testimonials

KCP is a great program because of what it has currently. Great teachers, with a good curriculum, allows for a superior learning opportunity and is the main reason why KCP’s students are great at Japanese.
