The spring term undoukai was so much fun!

Brenna from 2012

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

The spring term undoukai was so much fun! I particularly enjoyed how all of the classes in the school were brought together to experience this uniquely Japanese event. I think it produced a sense of unity throughout the school, which made the event incredibly fun and a nice little break from studying while still being immersed in Japanese culture.

Which co-curriculum classes did you find most satisfying?

I enjoyed taking the conversation class because the instructors chose interesting topics that also translated well into real life situations. I didn't feel like practice without a purpose.

Why did you select this program?

Because of the full immersion, intensive Japanese language classes. When I was still deciding on where to study, none of the other programs had a specific focus on just Japanese language classes, so that aspect was appealing. Also the cost of tuition was actually less than my university's, so that was another reason. I also read some reviews on the KCP website which also helped to reinforce my decision and answer some questions pertaining to student life at KCP.

What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?

I really in enjoyed pair work and small groups because we were able to utilize our language skills, but if we did come across something that one student might not understand, the instructor was there to clarify any questions. It also provided a good setting for getting to know my classmates better without the stress of coming up with sentences in front of the class, which can sometimes be a little nerve wracking.

Where did you reside over the course of this program?

Dormitory

Where did you live?

Minami Kasai Dorm

Were you pleased with the general living arrangements? Anything you especially liked? Any problems you experienced?

I really enjoyed living in Kasai. The commute was a little long, but I took that as a normal thing for living in Tokyo. The dorm managers were very friendly and always willing to help, even if I couldn't converse very effectively with them.

Any further thoughts or tips for those considering the program or new KCP students?

If you want a challenge, then this program in definitely what you're looking for. I came into the program with very basic knowledge of Japanese and am definitely excited about how much I have improved. Learning a language isn't instant and it takes a while to sink in, but the longer you're here you become more motivated to utilize what you learn and to continue to progress in your studies. And all of the instructors and office staff are some of the most friendly and approachable people I have ever met. They really make the whole experience quite enjoyable!

Testimonials

At first I thought KCP was too good to be true because I could not find a single negative review anywhere. Every comment I found was positive. Turns out there’s a very good reason for this 🙂
